Jug

This jug from Padua of the second half of the sixteenth century, in sgraffito ceramic painted on slip and under glaze, has a globular body, a narrow trilobed mouth and a wide strap handle. In the colours yellow, green and purple, a young man shown half-length and facing left is depicted within a central boss; he has long hair and wears a cap-like headdress. The background is occupied by a lattice hedge, rosettes and Gothic flowers, enclosed by a band of floral scrolls on a lowered ground. It measures twenty-three centimetres in height and twenty-one centimetres in maximum diameter. The piece is fragmented with integration of the form.
